Dr Jatinder Shekhawat

Jatinder joined us at Garran Medical Imaging in 2020 after completing a musculoskeletal and sports imaging fellowship in Adelaide. He is a complete enthusiast who gels perfectly with the Garran team. He is totally patient-focused, joyful, and communicates well with everyone around him.

Recently, Jatinder has engaged with many local and national sporting teams including The Canberra Raiders, University of Canberra Capitals, Rowing Australia, ACT Meteors and many national and international cricketers to provide specialist musculoskeletal services. Helping these sporting teams to reach their potential, like the associated sport itself, is one of Jatinder’s passions.

Jatinder has also been instrumental in implementing a high end cardiac imaging service here at GMI which is also making a difference to referrers and patients alike.

Jatinder did his radiology training in Canberra after establishing himself as an Emergency Medicine and ICU doctor with experience at both Royal Hobart and The Canberra Hospital ED and ICU. Jatinder has completed further training post-fellowship in musculoskeletal and sports imaging, Body MRI (see image below), Breast imaging and Cardiac CT imaging. He has extensive experience in musculoskeletal intervention and injections, PRP therapy, and CT guided procedures. Jatinder has also reviewed articles for the Australasian Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine.

He brings great life and medical experience to our practice. Jatinder grew up in the Indian subcontinent and became an impressive fast bowler (Cricketer of the year Armed Forces Medical College 2001), but ultimately decided to get serious about medicine rather than professional cricket. An impressive track record led him to St Mary’s Hospital in London, Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli (Wales, UK), before coming to Australia to work and study in Emergency Medicine at Rockhampton, Townsville, The Royal Hobart Hospital, and The Canberra Hospital. Ultimately he decided radiology was his calling and all of us here agree.
