Prepare for your visit
Before your appointment
Some procedures have specific patient preparation requirements. This usually involves fasting for a set period. If there is specific preparation you need to follow, we will let you know when you make your appointment.
Please ensure you bring your referral, Medicare card and any previous films with you to your appointment.
On the day of your appointment
When you arrive at our practice, the reception team will register you for your procedure.
A friendly member of the GMI team will greet you, explain the procedure and gather specific clinical information, which will assist with your results, and enable us to perform the scan as accurately as possible.
On arrival you will be asked a series of in-depth safety questions to ensure it is safe for you to have this scan. It’s important that you answer these questions correctly.
Your report and images
Once your images are complete, we process them using our computer. This allows us to provide clear images to assist in your diagnosis. Our doctor will complete the report and make the images available to your doctor.

Private Billing Policy
Medicare covers a wide range of our services, though for certain examinations and procedures, there may be an out-of-pocket fee. This approach enables GMI to invest in enhancing the quality of our imaging services and ultimately improving healthcare outcomes for our patients. The medical imaging technologist cannot provide the result of the test on the day to the patient. A radiologist views the images and provides a report for the referring doctor. In an emergency/urgent situation, the radiologist will consult the patient on the day and contact the referring doctor immediately.
A report will normally be generated within 24–48 hours following the examination. You can access the images and report via the GMI Patient app.
