National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP)

GMI is setting a new benchmark by being a key contributor to the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP), delivering world-class lung screening services through a commitment to excellence, innovation, and patient-centred care.

Australia’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) is a landmark public health initiative aimed at detecting lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages. Launching in July 2025, the program targets individuals at high risk of lung cancer, offering low-dose CT (LDCT) screening every two years. Early detection through screening has been shown to significantly reduce mortality by identifying cancers before symptoms appear.

Who is Eligible?

Entry into the program is based on a risk assessment that considers smoking history and age. To be eligible, individuals must:

  • Be aged 50 to 70 years
  • Have a history of significant smoking exposure (measured in pack-years)
  • Be current or former smokers who quit within the past 15 years

Eligible participants are referred for a low-dose CT chest scan at an accredited imaging provider.

Australia’s Only Purpose-Built Lung Screening Platform

We operate the only imaging platform in Australia designed specifically for lung cancer screening. In collaboration with Lungscreen Australia, referring clinicians benefit from access to a Respiratory Nurse Navigator—an experienced professional available to help interpret reports, coordinate follow-up, and support decision-making in complex cases.
