Dr Sriram Vaidyanathan

Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine, PET-CT, Head & Neck Imaging and Theranostics

Sriram is a dual-qualified Consultant Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician with extensive clinical, academic and leadership experience across India, the United Kingdom and Australia. He specialises in diagnostic nuclear medicine, PET-CT, advanced Head & Neck imaging and precision theranostics, integrating structural and molecular imaging to support personalised cancer care.

He previously practised within the Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospitals Group in Perth, an apex tertiary referral network, where he cemented experience across a wide range of theranostic procedures.

Sriram was UK PET-CT Specialty Clinical Lead for Everlight Radiology, with responsibility for international clinical oversight, protocol development, quality assurance and specialist training.

He previously worked at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in Europe, where he held senior consultant and leadership roles. He was Quality Lead for Radiology, leading the design and implementation of a bespoke radiology critical-findings alert system that won multiple national awards for patient safety and technological innovation.

Sriram has made practice-defining international contributions to Head & Neck cancer imaging, particularly in PET-CT response assessment. He has served as a panel member for National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, and his work has directly informed UK and international multidisciplinary cancer guidelines. His research has also influenced lung cancer diagnostic pathways adopted into British Thoracic Society guidelines.

He has an extensive international research record, with an H-index of 23 in under eight years as a consultant, over 60 peer-reviewed publications, and more than 60 international presentations and invited lectures. His work includes original research and major reviews in top-tier journals, including Annals of Internal Medicine, Scientific Reports (Nature), American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Allergy, EJNMMI, Neuroradiology Clinics of North America and European Radiology.

Over 63% of his publications are in the top 25% of journals by CiteScore, and 30% rank among the top 25% most-cited papers worldwide, with field-weighted citation metrics consistently above the global average.

His most cited work includes a landmark first-author paper on FDG PET-CT in infection and inflammation, one of the most cited articles in Clinical Radiology, and a randomised clinical trial published in Annals of Internal Medicine—both ranking in the highest citation percentiles for their fields. He is also the recipient of the Ellis Barnett Prize from the Royal College of Radiologists for a landmark ultrasound publication validating the British Thyroid Association thyroid nodule classification.

Sriram is an Advisory Editor for Clinical Radiology (Royal College of Radiologists) and Chief Editor for the Head & Neck module of the Royal College of Radiologists’ global e-learning platform (R-ITI). At Garran Medical Imaging, he brings internationally benchmarked expertise in diagnostic nuclear medicine, PET-CT, Head & Neck imaging and theranostics, combining academic rigour with high-quality, patient-centred clinical care.
